OVERVIEW

Pulonis — formerly designated Vesk-6 by the Veskarium — is the sixth planet in the Ghavaniska system and the homeworld of the catlike pahtras. An inexplicably warm jungle world despite its distance from the sun Ghavaniska, the planet is hot and humid, with its low gravity producing towering trees, gigantic insects, and other titanic flora and fauna locked in ruthless competition. Pulonis threw off Veskarium control in 325 AG and became the first full member of the Pact Worlds government outside the Pact system that same year. A powerful magnetosphere helps the planet retain its atmosphere, but the magnetic winds it generates devastate many forms of technology — most starships, vehicles, and buildings are one system failure away from complete destruction. As a result, much of the surface remains untamed, and the planet's few modern settlements rely on heavy magnetic shielding to function. Residents must often travel hundreds of miles to visit a digitized library or advanced medical facility. Pulonis is a small, lush terrestrial world with a single supercontinent making up the majority of its land. The planet lacks ice caps, and its hot climate is nearly uniform across all latitudes. Its low gravity has allowed truly towering flora to evolve, with forests reaching as high as mountain ranges on other worlds, while the actual mountains are even taller with jagged peaks that seem impossibly steep to offworlders. Though technically having only one ocean, cartographers split the seas into three major bodies: the relatively safe Ketemare Ocean, the Tideflight Ocean and Tereltos Sea, known for dangerously extreme tides caused by the pull of the planet's twin moons — Hinirinn and Yolaku. Near the center of the continent lies a blasted rocky plain where the worst fighting of the Veskarium invasion took place; pahtras call this the Holy Lands, in honor of all who died fighting there. Recent investigation has unveiled that the planet's core appears to have been altered in its prehistoric past, allowing it to maintain warm temperatures despite its distance from the sun. Most theories posit that an unknown advanced alien species was responsible for this planetary engineering, but no proof of these aliens has been found anywhere in the Veskarium, and no ancient ruins have been discovered on Pulonis. Pahtras are lanky feline humanoids who evolved in the low gravity to be swift predators. They conquered their environment through adaptability, ferocity, and training rather than strength, thriving within a brutally competitive ecosystem. Pahtra culture reveres battle and music as the two most prestigious callings, often combining the two. Since gaining independence, the planet's pahtra nation-states have flourished with greater autonomy, though the lingering effects of Veskarium occupation and the ever-present dangers of the planet's magnetic fields and megafauna remain constant challenges. Pulonis is also home to hymothoas, sapient ichthyoid oozes that lurk in the most humid swamps. Despised by both vesk and pahtras, these bulbous creatures are known to crawl inside other sapient beings, slowly devouring their host's organs while adapting to replace their function.

MOONS (2)

Hinirinn

One of Pulonis's two moons, called Vesk-6.1 under Veskarium designation. Its gravitational pull, combined with Yolaku's, contributes to the extreme tides of the Tideflight Ocean and Tereltos Sea that can flood for miles inland daily.

Yolaku

Pulonis's second moon, designated Vesk-6.2 by the Veskarium. Together with Hinirinn, it causes the dangerously extreme tidal forces that define much of coastal life on the planet.

MAJOR SETTLEMENTS (7)

Command 6

The former planetary capital and center of Veskarium power on Pulonis. This massive military complex provided artificial gravity matching Vesk Prime and full magnetic shielding. Lacking its own spaceport due to atmospheric magnetic storms, all space traffic was routed through the Starlance elevator. Since Pulonis joined the Pact Worlds in 325 AG, Command 6 has been repurposed under elected local governance, though its military infrastructure remains largely intact.

Starlance

A magnetically powered space elevator and the only spaceport on Pulonis — the planet's second-largest city. Its orbital terminus allows starships to dock safely above the dangerous magnetosphere, with magnetically shielded containers ferrying passengers and cargo along the tether to Caltenu Island. One of the few settlements known for luxury, Starlance features eclectic storefronts, arcades, holotheaters, virtual reality cafes, and massive gyms built to combat bone density loss in low gravity. Population 2,187,428 (55% pahtra, 22% vesk, 23% other).

Rafemii

Situated near the center of the Holy Lands, Rafemii was founded by pahtra collectives who abandoned technology altogether, considering it unclean due to its association with their vesk conquerors. They turned to magic instead, recruiting powerful pahtra mystics from across the planet. As a result, Rafemii holds outsized influence as the spiritual center of Pulonis. Its border guards kept the hidden settlement of Skyhollow — the last vestige of precolonial pahtra culture — secret and safe through treaties with the Veskarium.

Trenarez

A pahtra nation-state on a peninsula between the Bloodsong Mountains and Thunderspeak Bay, at the cutting-edge forefront of music culture. Trenarez holds multiple music festivals and government-sponsored artist residencies, boasting that its music is solely fueled by pahtra ingenuity. Its towering electric 'singing coils' release high-voltage discharges that reproduce musical tones, combining musical mayhem and lightning-fueled destruction that attracts crowds from miles around.

Hafrerren

A pahtra nation-state on the northwest tip of the supercontinent, known for biomedical and organic science research and the practice of traditional low-tech medicine — advancing Pulonis with techniques unaffected by heavy magnetic fields. Beneath this veneer, Hafrerren was historically riddled with rebel sympathizers who smuggled supplies to resistance fighters, including the bio-engineered Krreyvash guerrillas.

Lameida

A decentralized pahtra coalition whose members are heirs to the merchant and courier collectives that thrived before the Veskarium invasion. Lameidan couriers travel via magsails — flying ships with sails of electromagnetic energy propelled by the planet's strong magnetic winds — providing essential communication and trade across a world where long-range communication equipment is all but useless.

Drill Point

A Veskarium excavation site northeast of Command 6, established after the discovery that Pulonis's core was altered in its prehistoric past. Vesk pushed their technology to the limits drilling through the planet's crust in search of ancient technology or magic. The site was plagued with accidents — the planet's powerful magnetism intensifies with depth, and drillers eventually hit a point where equipment sent into the mantle could not be retrieved without breaking. The site's status since Pulonis's independence remains uncertain.
