OVERVIEW
MOONS (1)
Traverse (shared)
The same moon shared with Vesk-7. Traverse orbits Vesk-8 for half a planetary year (36 Pact Standard years) before transferring back to Vesk-7. During convergence, the magical shimmerstone gates activate, and thousands of kothamas make pilgrimages to Mount Matha's monastery to travel through the gates to Traverse for the sacred Meet.
MAJOR SETTLEMENTS (3)
Command 8
Primarily a supply and storage depot for the Veskarium military, holding shimmerstone mined at Penal Colony 8 for export. The garrison is responsible for supporting the shimmerstone mine and keeping watch over the kothama monastery at Mount Matha. Relatively spartan with few amenities — Vesk-8's extreme cold is a true nightmare for most vesk, and with little native life to hunt or fight, a posting here is cold, boring, and honorless. Even High Despot Jularaz spends as little time here as possible.
Mount Matha Monastery
The highest peak on Vesk-8 and a sacred site to kothamas. At the summit, as close to the stars as possible where temperatures are lowest and atmosphere thinnest, kothamas built a monastery dedicated to meditation and contemplation, centered on one of the magical gates linking the planet to Traverse. Constructed almost entirely of shimmerstone, the monastery is open to the sky, and on clear nights the stars make the walls and gate sparkle with light. A few kothamas can be found year-round observing the stars, but during convergence, thousands make sacred pilgrimages up the steep winding path worn into the rock by centuries of kothama feet.
Penal Colony 8
The Veskarium's shimmerstone mine and penal colony near Command 8. Convicted criminals from across the Veskarium are sent here for hard labor mining the rare psychically-attuned mineral. Most miners have received lifetime sentences, though the unforgiving conditions mean such sentences are usually brutally short. Most of the mine is underground; only the miners' quarters, a fortified guard bunker, and a landing pad are on the surface. The miners' quarters are unguarded — anyone attempting escape would die in minutes from the extreme cold. Growing unrest among the miners threatens an uprising, especially when High Despot Jularaz is away.
