OVERVIEW

Pact Worlds colonists dispersed far and wide before and during the Gap, settling on planets such as the Golarion-like Marixah. After the Gap, Marixah's inhabitants realized their isolation and united with neighbors on the planet Kizmatta to form the Marixah Republic. The core system contains only two habitable planets, two lifeless rocky worlds, and three gas giants, but prosperity and equitable laws attracted widespread immigration, enabling expansion to eight additional colonized worlds beyond the home system. Second from its star, Marixah is a temperate world with six continents and productive seas, though endemic insects have evolved rapidly and now threaten both agriculture and citizens. Kizmatta, farthest from the sun, is a frigid world of caves carved by geothermal activity; terraforming has increased surface temperatures enough to enable broader habitation. The Republic holds elections every 6 years, filling a 257-member legislative body that meets in the capital, Rajadhan. Political parties form coalitions to navigate the diverse viewpoints, and chief representatives are appointed to handle diplomacy and emergencies. The Republic sees itself as an equal to the Pact Worlds and Veskarium, though it commands far less military and political might. Tensions with the Gideron Authority have escalated into border skirmishes over the Acalata system and Sansorgis, where ruins suggest a vast ancient hobgoblin empire once spanned both regions. Legislative gridlock between hawks and doves has paralyzed formal strategic responses, though the drift toward open conflict continues.

MAJOR SETTLEMENTS (6)

Convocation Hall

This massive governmental building in Rajadhan incorporates architectural traditions from the Republic's dozens of constituent species. In addition to the grand legislative hall and offices, it issues permits and hosts bureaucratic meetings. Lower-ranking officials lobby in hallways that become forums of negotiation and debate. Some citizens complain that the drive toward inclusive decision-making also makes the government slow and indecisive, prompting outlying colonies to hire freelancers rather than wait for legislative action.

Embassy Row

Forming a U shape around Kedutaan Park, Embassy Row houses dignitaries, politicians, and clergy from more than a hundred worlds. The array of architectural styles includes giant aquatic bubble homes, poison-filled domes, and low-gravity estates. Competition has driven ever more elaborate construction, and the district expands yearly as the Republic reaches out to newly discovered societies. The Gideron Authority famously withdrew its embassy a year ago and detonated the building, leaving a smoldering crater.

Heavens Gaze Plaza

Rajadhan's temple district hosts dozens of faiths, with the Heavens Gaze Plaza at its center, bordered by sprawling complexes dedicated to Desna, Eloritu, and Ibra. The plaza is a popular site for protests and rallies, while the major temples attract galactic tourists. Recent studies have produced muddled conclusions about who built Eloritu's temple, with rumors now suggesting a since-vanished predecessor group left it behind. Explorers petition to investigate the deepest basements, though priestly custodians remain reluctant.

Kdavian Deep

Marixah's shallow oceans teem with life, but a network of deep-sea trenches remains largely unexplored. The Kdavian Deep is the most infamous of these fissures. Oceanic surveys suggest jagged surfaces studded with underwater towers, and remote submersibles disappear with disconcerting regularity. Whether forgotten societies, sea monsters, natural forces, or something else is responsible remains unknown, spurring further expeditions.

Sundaratu University of the Arts

This Rajadhan university funds ethnographic and archaeological expeditions within and beyond the Republic to understand and celebrate its constituent cultures. Scholars are on the front line of the Gideron conflict, studying hobgoblin ruins both sides claim as heritage. The university regularly hires mercenaries with academic skills to guard researchers and is renowned for its holovid producer and metalworking alumni.

Vartaikam Bazaar

This ancient bazaar dates back to the Gap, and preservation societies ensure many original buildings survive. While some consider the structures outdated, locals take pride in their history and eccentricities. Though the Republic regulates vices and drugs, the bazaar provides illegal goods to those who know the proper code phrases. Defunct sewers, buried cellars, and smugglers' tunnels beneath the market provide havens for criminals. Authorities work to eliminate this black market, which regularly relocates to evade enforcement.
